The developments in pultruded products have greatly facilitated wind blade length in recent years. However, OEMs face multiple barriers to the wide spread adoption of this technology. In this presentation we look at sparcap technology and associated production methods, with reference to a selection of business case scenarios for 80 metre blades. An overview of the wind sector supply chain, carbon fibre usage (in relation to current volumes) and predictions for 2025 is also addressed. The introduction of new technologies in blade manufacture is considered factoring in TRL (technology readiness levels).
